Divorce is never an easy move, no matter what your situation is. I will never forget the day I left my husband and moved into my 2 bedroom apartment. It was the saddest day of my life; I remember laying on the floor of my empty apartment crying tears of both joy and sorrow. I didn't care that I no longer was in a big, fancy house or that I wasn't driving an expensive car. All that mattered to me was that I had my piece of mind back. It felt like the weight of the world had been lifted off my shoulders.

Although I was not mentally prepared for all the emotions that would soon sneak up on me, I have always been the person that went with my gut feeling. And now was a time when I had to do it, while I had the courage to leave. If I would have known the pain my family was about to go through, I would have never had the courage to leave.
I often say the first year of divorce is, in a way, worse than death because when someone you love dies they are physically gone and you are forced to move on. When you divorce the father of your children, you are walking away from the closest person in your life to pick up the pieces and begin anew. However, they are still around, and still share a bond with your children, yet they are untouchable to your new world. Parenting together doesn't end just because the marriage did. Your children are a constant reminder of the past, and even of what the future holds. As they grow and meet milestones that will be experienced by both parents.
